Psalm 1:3 ’He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season…’

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. – Galatians 5:22.

Faithfulness – a beautiful attribute of God’s divine nature that all His children are expected to demonstrate. Faithfulness is one of God’s most outstanding attributes; He is faithful to His covenants, faithful to His Word, faithful to His promises, and faithful to His creation. ‘Great is Your faithfulness.’ – Lamentations 3:23. If He were not faithful, the whole of creation would have fallen apart a long time ago. After the waters of Noah, God made a covenant that He would no longer destroy the earth by flooding, and He gave a sign of the covenant. Thousands of years later, He is still faithful to His covenant despite the fact that evil and wickedness have increased upon the earth since the first time He initiated the covenant (See Genesis 9:1-17). If He were not faithful to His covenant with Abraham, the nation of Israel would by now have been totally wiped out of existence by her enemies (See Genesis 15:1-21). Again, If He were not faithful, Christianity would no longer exist today because the covenant God made through the blood of Jesus His Son would have been broken (See Ephesians 2:11-13)

“Your mercy O Lord is in the heavens and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.’”– Psalm 36:5.

Faithfulness (pistotita)

The Greek word for faithfulness – pistotita – means firmness, steadfastness, security, moral fidelity. It also implies trustworthiness, unshaking commitment, adherence to a covenant in marriage, fulfilling business agreements. ‘Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, and faithfulness the belt of His waist.’ – Isaiah 11:5

A true Christian is required to demonstrate this holy attribute among all men. ‘God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.’ – 1 Corinthians 1:9. For instance, God requires you to be faithful to your wife or husband, you must have sex with no other! He expects you to fulfil every business agreement and financial agreement you have made with your business associates, investors, employees. He wants you to earn people’s trust. He also wants you to be faithful in the assignment and responsibility He has committed into your hands. ‘But as God is faithful, our word to you was not yes and no.’ – 2 Corinthians 1:18. God expects all these from you as His child, simply because you were made in His image, and like a mirror, you are supposed to reflect Him in every area of your life and all your relationships. But He did not leave you to accomplish this on your own strength, knowing that you will utterly fail. For this reason, He gave you the Holy Spirit to help in this so you can grow more into His likeness.

Walking in the Spirit

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit – Galatians 5:25

No man can please God without being faithful to Him; and no one can claim to be faithful to God until he first demonstrates it in his relationships, agreements, and dealings with other people. Faithfulness is an unchanging law in God’s kingdom, a law that binds God Himself.

“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.” – 2 Timothy 2:13.

You can’t fulfill and maximize your destiny and potentials if you are not faithful to God, His commandments and personal instructions He has given you. Faithfulness in earthly things qualify you for great rewards, both in earthly and heavenly things. Faithfulness brings increase and God’s favor. Faithfulness secures a place for you in the heart of Jesus. In this age of technological advancement, where the devil has made it easy and convenient to be unfaithful to your spouse, loved ones and business associates, you must deliberately take a stand for God’s standard. If you need extra money, like most people usually do, taking money that is not yours often ‘seems’ to be an easy way out, but that is a subtle lie of the devil. That is not the way of the Lord.

Do you want real peace in your life, home, marriage, relationships, and workplace?

Then I encourage you to deliberately cultivate this fruit called faithfulness. Are you a government official who was sworn into the office you are presently occupying? Then I beg you to be faithful to the oath of office! This is the way of the Lord; faithfulness in everything. Your earthly and heavenly rewards largely depend on this ‘seemingly insignificant’ attribute of God called faithfulness. ‘…I gave the charge of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the leader of the citadel, for he was a faithful man and feared God more than many.’ – Nehemiah 7:2

Engaging the wisdom of God to bear the fruit of faithfulness.

However, there need be no accounting made with them of the money delivered into their hand, because they dealt faithfully. – 2 Kings 22:7

  1. Make a decision to grow in faithfulness. Decision must come before action. It becomes easier to follow through a process once you have decided. Resolve to be (or remain) faithful to your wife or husband no matter the temptations of the devil. Resolve to fulfill all financial and business agreements. Make a deliberate choice not to steal or divert money that is not personally yours. ‘My eyes shall be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; He who walks in a perfect way, he shall serve me.’ – Psalm 101:6
  2. Ask the indwelling Spirit of God to help you. The reason God gave us His Spirit is to help us be a godly and powerful people. He is a sure Helper, but you need to ask Him first because He doesn’t force Himself on people. In every area of life, He is always there, ‘a very present help in the time of need.’

Are you ready for God to help you bear much fruit of Faithfulness?
